Three Courses will be offered at the MonValley District Lay Servant Academy:
Basic Lay Servant Ministries
Leading Prayer
United Methodist Beliefs

Basic Lay Servant Ministries: Those entering the Lay Servant Ministry. This course focuses on the primary aspects of lay servant ministry: leading, caring, communicating, and resources available. The course will be led by Rev. Cindy Boggs, 1st UMC, Shinnston. Need to bring: Basic Course Book, a copy of coursework, Bible (syllabus from your instructor will be emailed to you upon registration)

Advanced Lay Servant Ministries: Those wanting to become a Certified Lay Servant, needing to be recertified as a Certified Lay Servant, or desiring to achieve Certified Lay Speaker status.

The Advance Course, Leading Prayer, instructor is Rev. Lisa Crone, Community-Johnson Chapel Charge.

The Advance Course, UM Beliefs, will be led by DS Amy Shanholtzer, MonValley District, and Rev. John Brosky, Blacksville Charge. Need to bring: Advance Course Book, a copy of coursework, Bible (syllabus from your instructor will be emailed upon registration).

The cost of the Lay Servant Academy is $20.00 per person. This includes your book, lunch, and snacks. Registration form with payment is due to the district office by Wednesday, September 12, 2018. Please make checks payable to “MonValley District Office” and mail/bring to 309 Cleveland Avenue, Suite 100, Fairmont, WV 26554.

Coursework to instructor deadline is Monday, September 17, 2018. No walk-ins will be accepted.
You are encouraged to register as quickly as possible as you will need to pick up your book at the district office or have it mailed to you. You will need to allow plenty of time to read and respond to your instructor’s syllabus.
